BONE AUGMENTATION IN THE JAW: IN DEUTZ, COLOGNE, YOU WILL RECEIVE A SECURE FOUNDATION FOR YOUR NEW TEETH

Did you know that Cologne Cathedral stands on foundations that reach almost 17 metres deep? Without this stable base, our landmark would probably not be so firmly established. The same applies to dental implants: the artificial tooth roots must be anchored deep in the jawbone in order to withstand daily stress.

Would you like to have dentures on implants? Then we will first check whether your jawbone has sufficient substance. Because we want you to enjoy your third set of teeth for a long time to come.

Dr. Nikolas Ganß, Zahnarzt und Implantologe in Köln, setzt feste Zähne an einem Tag

“Bone augmentation is now a standard procedure in implantology. Building up bone and placing an implant can often be done in a single appointment. This saves our patients from having to undergo additional surgery. However, there must be sufficient residual bone substance for this to be possible. That is why you should replace a lost tooth quickly.”

– Dr Nikolas Ganss, dentist and implantologist

We would be happy to inform you about all the options for bone augmentation to ensure successful implantation.

When is bone augmentation necessary?

Our body is efficient: it breaks down everything it does not need. When you lose a tooth, the underlying bone no longer receives chewing pressure. Within a few months, the jawbone recedes significantly at this point:

  • Inflammatory processes such as periodontitis can accelerate bone loss.
  • The natural ageing process can also weaken bone substance.

In these cases, the remaining jawbone is usually too weak to support implants. This is because artificial tooth roots, just like natural tooth roots, need a strong foundation.

In most cases, your implantologist can rebuild the jawbone. This lays the foundation for successful implantation, allowing you to fulfil your wish for fixed third teeth on implants.

Does your jawbone meet the requirements for an implant?

We will look into that. Please make an appointment for the examination:

Bone augmentation in the upper and lower jaw – these options are available

Bone augmentation is possible in both the upper and lower jaw. Your dentist can augment the jawbone using either biological or artificial bone replacement material.

Various methods are used for this. The most common are internal or external sinus lifts in the upper jaw.

At Dr. Ganss + Kollegen, we prefer to use the body’s own bone substance (autologous bone). This has clear advantages for you as a patient:

  • Your body does not reject its own material.
  • There is no risk of an allergic reaction.
  • We stimulate the body to form new bone substance again.

In some cases, we require additional material for successful bone augmentation. We use animal-free bone substance that is extremely well tolerated.

Is bone augmentation always necessary?

If you are interested in dental implants, we always carry out a comprehensive preliminary examination:

  • If we remove a tooth, we always try to place the implant immediately (immediate implantation).
  • If we cannot insert an implant immediately, we use the Tissue Master Concept. This special method allows us to preserve your existing jawbone for later implantation.

We would be happy to explain the details of the individual bone augmentation procedures to you in person at our practice.
