Dr. Nikolas Ganß, Zahnarzt und Implantologe in Köln, setzt feste Zähne an einem Tag

“It is always best if we do not have to treat anything. However, if something does happen, we want to provide your tooth with the best possible care. Tooth-coloured plastic fillings enable us to restore your tooth to its natural appearance. No one will notice the difference. And you will regain the full function and natural aesthetics of your tooth.”

Aesthetic dental filling: Composite fillings make your tooth look like new.

Nowadays, we can repair your teeth almost invisibly with high-quality composite fillings:

  • Composite is a composite material consisting of a plastic matrix and fillers.
  • The plastic matrix contains tiny particles of solid ceramic.
  • This creates a colour that looks exactly like natural tooth enamel.

The most effective protection against tooth decay and other dental problems is regular dental prophylaxis.

To achieve a perfect end result, we must process the composite material with particular care. This is how we proceed:

  1. Composite is sensitive to moisture when unprocessed. That is why we first isolate the affected tooth with a wafer-thin rubber sheet – known as a rubber dam. This ensures a completely dry environment.
  2. In the next step, we remove the decayed area. We do this step by step using magnifying glasses or a dental microscope. This ensures that we preserve as much healthy tooth substance as possible. The more tooth substance there is, the more stable your tooth will remain.
  3. We now apply the composite material layer by layer until the defect is closed and your tooth looks aesthetically pleasing again. We bond the composite firmly to the natural enamel. This means that you can later put normal pressure on your tooth again.

For larger defects: Ceramic inlays and onlays

Composite material is ideal for small to medium-sized holes and cracks in the enamel. However, some defects in the side area are too large for a plastic filling. Higher chewing forces are at work here, so we crown the tooth – either completely or partially. To do this, we use ceramic inlays or onlays:

  • Inlays and onlays consist of a single piece of ceramic.
  • Our master dental technician Elena Tscherny will tailor this precisely to your tooth.
  • We then bond the ceramic piece firmly to the rest of your tooth.

Ceramic restorations restore full function and natural aesthetics. You can find more information here: Ceramic restorations
