The advantages of dental implants from Dr. Ganss + Kollegen:

  • Experts at your side: Dr Nikolas Ganss has been successfully fitting implants for many years. Our dental hygienists take care of the optimal care and prophylaxis of dentures and natural teeth. So that your dentures will last you a lifetime.
  • Trustworthy treatment: We take the time to respond to your wishes and questions. Because the better informed you are, the more relaxed you will be when you start your treatment.
  • Latest medical procedures: We determine your vitamin D3 level for every implant procedure. This is because an optimal supply supports the rapid integration of the implant into the jawbone.

Implantology: How do dental implants help with tooth loss?

A missing tooth can affect your eating, speaking and, of course, your smile. That is why we at Dr. Ganss + Kollegen want to replace your missing tooth as quickly as possible. Fixed dentures on implants often offer the ideal solution here.

Dental implants also protect your adjacent, healthy teeth. We would be happy to explain why this is important.

Why should you close gaps between your teeth?

Of course, you can live with a gap in your teeth. Especially in the back of the mouth, it is usually hardly noticeable. However, missing a tooth does have consequences:

  • The neighbouring teeth may “migrate” or “tip” into the gap.
  • This means that your upper and lower teeth no longer fit together properly.
  • The jaw shifts: muscle tension, neck pain and headaches develop.
  • If the neighbouring teeth tilt too far into the gap, they lose their hold in the bone and, in the worst case, fall out.
  • Your jawbone deteriorates at the site of the missing tooth because the natural pressure on the tooth is missing.

Are there advantages to dental implants over conventional bridges and dentures?

Your dentist must attach conventional bridges and dentures to the adjacent teeth. To do this, they often grind down healthy teeth. We anchor an implant firmly in the jawbone. The adjacent teeth remain untouched. Thanks to the artificial tooth root, the jawbone under the denture is preserved.

Can anyone receive a dental implant?

We always decide whether dental prostheses on implants are suitable for you after a detailed consultation and an initial assessment.

Do any of these points apply to you?

  • Untreated periodontitis
  • Poorly controlled diabetes
  • Disorders of bone metabolism
  • Poor oral hygiene
  • (Pathological) teeth grinding
  • Heavy smoking (high nicotine consumption)

Even then, we will find a good solution for you.

Good to know: What options do you have with dental implants?

We usually only realise how valuable our teeth are when we lose one. Implants form the foundation for replacing your tooth with a natural-looking replacement. Just like a natural tooth root, they provide a firm hold for your new artificial tooth in the jawbone.

In most cases, the dental implant consists of two parts and the corresponding denture:

  • We anchor the actual implant in the jawbone during a minor procedure.
  • A so-called connecting post is then placed on the implant.
  • Your visible dentures in the form of a crown or bridge sit on top of this.

This is where implants come into play

Implants have been a proven method of replacing missing teeth for decades. They can be used to fill a single gap, a larger gap or an entire edentulous jaw. We connect the implants to a crown, bridge or (full) denture.

What material are dental implants made of at Dr. Ganss + Kollegen in Cologne?

We have been successfully using titanium dental implants for many years. This material is particularly well tolerated and can fuse firmly with the bone. We work with various renowned manufacturers.

“At our dental practice, we use implants with the CleanImplant certificate, among others. These meet particularly high testing criteria for safety and hygiene. You can be sure that we take every measure to ensure you receive the best possible treatment results.”
– Dr Nikolas Ganss, implantology specialist

Bone augmentation for a firm hold for your implants

Dental implants need to be firmly anchored in your jawbone. That is why we first check whether your bone is suitable for implantation. If not, we build up the bone before implantation. Read here to find out how this is done: Bone augmentation

Your path to strong teeth – this is how your implant procedure could proceed

Implantation is a minor surgical procedure. To make it as comfortable as possible for you, we use minimally invasive techniques. Minimally invasive means that we insert your implants particularly gently and carefully. If necessary, we also use a sedative to put you in a state of deep relaxation. Of course, you will receive a local anaesthetic so that we can rule out any pain when inserting the dental implant.

  1. Your implants will then heal into the jawbone. This can take several weeks to months.
  2. You will therefore initially receive a temporary denture. This will allow you to eat and speak as you are accustomed to doing.
  3. Once your implants are firmly anchored in the jawbone, you will receive your final dentures. You can use these just like healthy natural teeth.

Vitamin D3 as a success factor for your implant

Vitamin D3 performs numerous important functions in the body. Vitamin D3 plays a particularly important role in bone metabolism. With optimal vitamin D3 levels, wounds heal faster. Vitamin D3 also strengthens bone density, including in the jawbone.

Many people today have a vitamin D3 deficiency. That is why we test your levels before every implantation and take appropriate measures based on the results.

How much do dental implants cost in Cologne? We provide transparent information on this as well.

We consider it important to provide you with clear and comprehensive information about all costs incurred. To do so, we need to know the following:

  • How many implants do you require?
  • Is your bone substance sufficient, or do we need to build up the bone?
  • What type of dentures did you decide on?

All of these factors influence the final cost of dental implant treatment. That is why we discuss the exact costs with you after an initial examination. You will receive a detailed plan outlining all stages of the treatment.

Good to know: Statutory health insurance funds do not cover the costs of dental implants. You will only receive a fixed subsidy for the dentures.

What does private (supplementary) insurance cover?

Depending on the tariff selected, private (supplementary) insurance policies cover some or all of the costs of dental prostheses on implants. As statutory health insurance funds do not cover many services in the field of modern dentistry, it may be advisable to take out private supplementary insurance.

You can find more information here: Supplementary insurance for optimal dental care

Answers to frequently asked questions about implantology in Deutz, Cologne

What does immediate restoration and immediate loading mean?

  • Immediate restoration refers to a situation where the implantologist immediately connects the implant to a temporary denture after insertion.
  • Immediate loading means that you can put weight on your implant immediately or after 24 hours at the latest, just like a normal tooth.

A classic procedure for immediate restoration is the “Fixed teeth in a day” method for edentulous jaws. Read more about it here: Fixed teeth in a day

Dental implants: What is the experience regarding their lifespan?

With good care, the durability of dentures on implants is similar to that of healthy natural teeth. Care also includes regular professional teeth cleaning at our practice.

Which types of dentures are possible on implants?

There are many different options when it comes to dentures. We recommend ceramic dentures, as this natural material looks very similar to real teeth. At Dr. Ganss + Kollegen, you will receive high-quality dentures from our in-house laboratory.
